ATTO I – SCENA I
(SHADOWS) TRACK 1 (Sunshine reggae con voci) Buio fino a 0.23 Sequenza di fotografie”: Anna immobile al centro del palco circondata da tre o quattro gruppi di amici in freeze che la ignorano. Sono in posa di saluto, cellulari, parlano, scherzano… BUIO Anna e Heidi immobili al centro che si guardano con aria di sfida. Intorno a loro gli stessi amici ma in pose diverse. BUIO Anna e Heidi che si ignorano. Heidi si è unita ad un altro gruppo e Anna la guarda rabbiosa. BUIO Anna da sola in spot light al centro del palco che non si sente bene (mano sulla testa…) BUIO Anna distesa per terra. BLACK OUT (fino all’arrivo delle Shadows. La luce si alzerà appena la prima scado inizierà a parlare)
ATTO II – SCENA I (SHADOWS) (INGRESSO SHADOWS: ogni Ombra terrà in mano una torcia elettrica accesa, uniche luci nel buio del teatro. Tutte le ombre puntano la propria torcia su Anna che si risveglia.) Shadow: Over hill, over dale, Shadow: Thorough bush, thorough brier, Shadow: Over park, over pale, Shadow: Thorough flood, thorough fire, Shadow: I do wander everywhere, Anna si sveglia di scatto. Shadow: Swifter than the moon's sphere; Anna: WHO…WHO…WHAT ARE YOU???? Shadow: THROUGH THE FUTURE, PAST AND PRESENT Shadow: I do wander everywhere, Shadows: Swifter than the moon's sphere; Anna: No….no no no no NO!! YOU ARE NOT GHOSTS! I mean you can’t be ghosts!!! Ghosts don’t exist!!! AND I AM NOT DEAD!!!!!! Or am I? Shadow: Why don’t you trust your senses? Anna: Because…….. hem … little things affect them . You for instance…..(pointing to one of the shadows) You could be a piece of beef difficult to digest. - (pointing to another shadow) and you a spit of mustard…- (pointing to another shadow) and you ……a bit of cheese…- (pointing to another shadow) a piece of a raw potato! - There's more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are! Shadow: Don’t be scared Shadow: We aren’t ghosts and you aren’t dead Anna: Of course, yes,…….well… WHO THE HELL ARE YOU???? THEN?!! Shadow: Spirits. Just spirits. Shadow: We are…Shadows Anna: But what are spirits doing on earth, and what do they want from me?? Shadow: You’re wearing a chain that you yourself are making at such a young age. Shadow: You have made bit by bit… Shadow: metre after metre… Shadow: You have tied it onto yourself without anybody forcing you to and you are wearing it because you want to Anna: But ..what on earth are you speaking about???? Shadow: Are you happy? Anna: Me…? Yes of course Shadow: Don’t tell lies… Shadow: Where are all your friends, Anna? Anna: In the p… Shadow: Your true friends, Anna Shadow: Are they your true friends or are they just people who make you feel …cool? Anna: But what are you on about??!! Shadow: What is a true friend, Anna? Shadow: Have you got one? Anna: I…don’t know what you mean Shadow: No one has got the time to understand anything at all. Shadow: They buy already made things in shops.. Shadow: But there aren’t any shops where you can buy friendship and that’s why people don’t have friends any more….…- Shadow: You can only understand the thing that you can tame Anna: What… does “tame" mean-?- Spirits: It’s something that people forget too often Shadow: It means to establish ties. Anna: To establish ties? Shadow: Just that– Anna: I really don’t understand you… Shadow: You must be very patient Shadow: What is essential is invisible to the eye Shadow: Men have forgotten this truth, but you must not forget it. Shadow: You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed… (Anna tries to run away…) Shadow: Don’t be afraid of Shadows…They only mean that there’s a light nearby Anna (speaking to herself ,in a panic, very nervous): I knew it would have happened, I KNEW IT!!!! They had warned me: rule number one: don’t mix alcoholic drinks! What an idiot I am! OH MY GOOOOOOOOD!!!! It has happened ..I have blown my brain ooooooout. These hallucinations are an evident sign of madness…..I’M MAD! They’ll put me in a mental hospital if I manage to get out of this nightmare!!! Nightmare…. And what if this was just a terrible night mare, a “horrible journey” Shadow: Three groups of spirits will be coming to see you… Shadow: The Spirits of Past Friendship … Shadow: The Spirits of Present Friendship Shadow: The Spirits of Future Friendship Shadow: Listen to them…. Shadow: Try and under stand your past Shadow: Live the present Shadow: Shape your future… TRACK 2 - (Past, Present and Future) The past, past, well now let me tell you about the past
ACT III – SCENE I (THE SPIRITS OF FRIENDSHIP PAST) (Hall of the Mountain King) (The Spirits of Friendship Past enter) Spirit: A female…about 15 Spirit: Height? One metre sixty two Spirit: Shoes …size 38 and a half Spirit: Imaginative, stubborn…….mmm…she hates Maths and ginger biscuits Altogether: That’s no good, no good, no good at all! Anna: WHAT!? Spirit: Hobbies: Music…. Oh she plays in a band…. The Hippies? Nostalgic?? Anna (slapping herself): Anna …Anna. Wake up. All this isn’t true, it’s only a dream. A horrible dream..... Or probably this disgusting place is Purgatory or a kind of sorting out place for souls..... no, no I’m raving. Spirit: Raving …. Regular Verb “to rave”… Spirit: It comes from Latin “TO TALK NONSENSE”, to be out of ones mind. Spirit: Well the girl seems way out of her mind Spirit: She has left her mind in the park........ Spirit: Or we could say her real mind is here with us and only the image of her is there in the park! Anna: And then they say it’s me that drugs myself….. are you listening to what you are saying? Spirit: And we have the real you here with us, your essence, you know? Spirit: And it doesn’t look very well. Anna: Of course OK, OK ... Let me understand ….. is it like in that old tale…now… you… you would you like to take me on a journey into my very boring past to give me a lecture - No thankyou, I’m choosing Life. A life full of great fun Parties, Fiestas…. Got it , Intiendes , Compris, CAPITO, PANIMAIESH. Spirits: Got it , Intiendes , Compris, CAPITO, PANIMAIESH. Anna: Yeh.. That was French, Spanish, Russian, Italian... Spirit: Oh French… Spanish.. (taking notes) Italian mmmm. Interesting Anna: Now if you don’t mind That’s enough with all this rubbish… LET ME GO HOOOOOOME!!! Spirit (with a philosophical atitude): There are some days in which nothing happens….. Anna: Oh my goodness ….. Here we go a lesson of life … Spirit: Days going by without anything worth remembering., without leaving any trace Spirit: Only afterwards do we appreciate what has already happened and only when it’s gone do we realize how important it was Spirit: But it’s gone. Spirit: Come and have a look. (The spirits pull Anna to a side. A little girl appears on the scene: it’s Anna as a child) Spirit: Who is that quiet, shy little girl eating all lunch alone on the play ground? Spirit: She’s really very pretty but she completely lacks self confidence. Spirit: Do you know her, Anna Anna: Her…. I mean…… That’s… ME?????????? It must have been ages ago!!! Oh... I remember that skirt… Spirit: Lovely isn’t it? Anna: I used to hate that skirt. Spirit: I was talking about you. Spirit: Shh …. She’s coming…
ATTO III – SCENA II (Another girl enters suddenly from out of nowhere and sits by Anna. This girl has a wild energy, sort of volcano that’s about to explode. Anna-of-the-past is sort of shocked but doesn’t do anything, just sits frozen.) Girl: See …that’s the problem with tuna sandwiches. You eat them and your breath stinks for about one, two, sometimes, even for three hours! But there are so many ways of getting rid of it: you can use Vivident, Tic Tac, Daygum Protex, even Big Bubble…..if you really like strawberry flavour. Do you like strawberries? (offering her a crisp from the packet she has in her hands). A crisp? Anna: No thanks… Girl: A sip of coke? (Anna sits frozen and silent) Girl: It looks as if I have scared you.. (Anna shaking her head) Girl: No? (Anna shaking her head) Girl: Oh…Okay. Silent type. Great, we’ll become great friends! (break) You can listen and I’ll do the talking. (break) You know, for a girl of I would say 10 or 11 years old you are abnormally quiet……I mean I wanted to say unusually silent (break) Oh …. I haven’t said anything wrong, have I? I haven’t said anything that has hurt you in any way shape, form or size? have I? Anna (shakes her head): No. Girl: Or colour? Or texture? Or luminosity? Anna: Luminosity? Girl: Yes, luminosity. You know… “containing a certain quantity of light, illumination or iridescence…radiant…shining…” Anna: No… Girl: No? Anna: No, you haven’t offended me Girl: Sure? Anna: WHO ARE YOU?!? Girl: Heidi. And you ‘re Anna. Anna: You know my name? Girl: We’ve known each other for weeks. Anna: Have we? Girl: Yes. (break) In my mind. I’ve been talking to you for weeks and we’ve become very good friends by now. Anna: You’re crazy. Girl: Yup. Anna: C’mon…who told you my name? Girl: Honest? Anna: Honest. Girl: Truth? Anna: Truth. Girl: Brad Pitt. Anna: WHO? Girl: I’m sorry…I meant Jonny Deep Anna: WHAT? Girl: Excuse me, my mistake again…I seem to be having difficulty concentrating today…You know, you’re sort of a…quiet type, right? No…no, let me guess…I bet you’re…shy. (Anna is quiet. She doesn’t know what to say) Girl: ‘You okay in there? (Anna nods) Girl: Sure? Anna: Yes. Girl: What are you thinking about? Anna: Luminosity. Girl: Oh…you like that word? Anna: I think so. Girl: It suits you. Anna: … TRACK 3 (Wind Beneath My Wings) After the first chorus two of Anna and Heidi’s school friends enter. They are now in the second year of Secondary school. Two boys and two girls are speaking to each other.) It must have been cold there in my shadow - Doveva essere freddo qui nella mia ombra,
ATTO III SCENA III (FRIENDS) Girl 1: Who do you think is the prettiest in 1D? Boy 1: The girl with short brown hair…what’s her name? Boy 2: Who Heidi? Boy 1: Yes, that’s it Boy 2: Don’t you think she’s a bit funny? Girl 2: She scares me a bit----she says funny things……..she speaks about strange things. Boy 1: ......and then when she looks at you she scares you. Boy 2: It seems as if she can read your thoughts, she might be the prettiest but I don’t want to have anything to do with her. TRACK 4 (The Little Prince) The scene freezes. The group of boys and girls remains still, as if it were in (break). Anna and Heidi enter from the other side of the stage. Heidi is telling her Anna one of her stories. Heidi: So the Little Prince said to the Fox: “What does tame mean?” “It is something that has been forgotten long ago” It means to create BONDS RELATIONSHIP TIES” Anna: To create TIES?” Heidi: “Just that” said the Fox “to me, you’re still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys an I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you I am nothing more than a Fox like a hundred thousand other Foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other . To me you will be unique in the whole world. To you I shall be unique in all the world. But if you tame me, it will be as if the sun came to shine on my life. I shall know the sound of a step that will be different from all the others. Other steps send me hurrying back underneath the ground. Yours will call me like music out of my burrow. (The music fades...- This scene freezes too, as if it were in break, The previous scene comes to life again.) Girl 1: ….You know what my mum says? That girl Heidi is a drug addict! Or even worse…. A witch All: A WITCH!!!? Girl 2: And then she’s always with “the desperate case”,,,, Boy 1: Who Looser? Girl 2: Yes, That’s right Looser! Now she really is an unsocial person! Girl 1: My mother says that she lives together with pigs, in the poor district. Her house seems made up of toothpicks and the roof seems made of orange peels! Girl 2: But have you seen how she dresses? Girl 1: When she has to wash herself she waits until it rains. (In the meantime Heidi goes out and Anna is alone, sitting on the forestage. The boys and girls go up to her and they provoke her.) Girl 1: Hey there, Hello Looser! Boy 1: Nice day today, isn’t it Looser? Girl 2: Well, Have you done your homework Looser? (she gets her schoolbag). Now, Let’s see what you’ve got inside here….( she tips the books out of the schoolbag letting them fall on the floor) Boy 2: Looser stinks! Girl 1: (she picks up Anna’s diary, and she starts reading it): I’m having this… Now let’s see…. - “Did you ever know that you're my hero, and everything I would like to be? I can fly higher than an eagle, 'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.” Boy 1: What!!! do you even write poems, Looser? Boy 2: Looser, (Do) you know what day it is today? Today is Tuesday….. Pay day… Boy 1: Out with the dough! Anna: But I … I ..haven’t got none (any) Girl 2: Guys…. now come on guys don’t be horrible to her….. She has spent her money in shopping! What a lovely dress Looser……”dustbin” model!!!! TRACK 5 - (Time after Time da 0.00 a 0.14 poi sfuma) (Heidi enters she stands between the group and Anna.) Heidi: Look, Anna doesn’t need to do any shopping. Can you see this scarf made of bewitched cloth? Well, it is 1,522 years old and it belonged to Merlin the Wizard himself. Her shirt belonged to Charlemagne and her skirt has been made by mice trained by the magic piper himself! Boy 2: These two are completely mad, come on let’s go away…. (The group leaves.) Heidi: Are you alright? Leave those idiots alone. Listen, I was thinking…… Do you remember that idea we had of forming a band? What do you think about it? (Heidi shows Anna a banner: “THE HIPPIES – ROCK BAND BY ANNA AND HEIDI – LIVE ON FRIDAY 9 pm… ……and the two girls go away enthusiastic.) TRACK 5 - (Time after Time) Spirit: So she was… Anna (sadly): Heidi… Spirit: Your best friend, Anna… Spirit: What happened then? Anna: We had grown up…
ATTO III SCENA IV (TIME AFTER TIME) ANNA (CAMILLA) is nothing new - a confusione non è nulla di nuovo HEIDI (Sofia) (Pantomime starts. Heidi and The Glam Rockers laugh, play around, they hug each other. The mime must let the audience understand they are making friends and that Heidi is becoming part of the group. Anna sings her lines...) ANNA (Eleonora) (Anna Appears on the other side of the stage with her mobile in her hands, she is calling Heidi.) (Music fades a 1.52) Anna: Hello, It’s Anna speaking could I speak to Heidi please? Oh … she’s not in Oh I see, she’s not,… no it’s that we were supposed to study together today and she hasn’t turned up yet….. I’ll find her on her mobile? OK…. Thank you. (Another phone call. Heidi is on the other side of the stage together with the group of new friends and she answers her mobile.) Anna: Hello Heidi…. Hello… oh … you’re busy…. I see….no, no no problem…. We’ll see each other at school… bye… (Anna closes her phone and goes out sadly.) (la musica ricomincia a 2.17) TRACK 6 ANNA (Eleonora) piangendo strappa le pagine del suo diario…
HEIDI (Sofia) Track 6 sfuma a 2.58 TRACK 7 (LITIGIO) Anna: Why didn’t you tell me? Heidi: I thought you weren’t interested! Anna: Heidi I’m your best friend and you haven’t told me that you were another group…. Heidi: I’ve made some new friends, what’s wrong! I love you, Anna, but you aren’t the only person that exists. Anna: You love me ? You liar! You haven’t asked me to come out with you, not even once! Why Heidi’ Are you shy of me? Do you think I’m not cool enough for the Glam Rockers? Or is it that now that you have found new friends you don’t need me any more? Heidi: But it’s you that refuses me with your silences and you keep me away? You are locked up Anna, I just can’t understand what you want…. Anna: I want to be myself and not live in the shade of an egocentric and selfish little girl who needs the others just to feel important.
ATTO IV – SCENA I SPIRITS OF FRIENDSHIP PRESENT TRACK 8 - Ingresso Spirits of Friendship present Spirit: Spirit: Spirit: Spirit: If you want to get to know about the past and understand the consequences it has had on you, look at yourself in the present, because the present is the effect of the past Spirit: We need to throw the past in the past setting the present free from its burden Spirit: The burden you feel is that you are afraid that nobody accepts you as you really are just because you think that you have already been refused once….. Spirits: Everybody needs somebody Anna. No man is an Island. Anna: Fibs. Every man is an island and anyway this is the right moment to be an island.This the era of islands. A hundred years ago you had to depend on the others. Nobody had a TV or CDS or DVDS or coffee machines at home. Actually To tell the truth there was nothing cool. TRACK 9 (Estonia) - (“You need more than this. You need friends…”) Spirit: You need more than this. You need friends… (La scena rappresenta ciò che sta accadendo nella realtà. Anna Svenuta ne parco.) Maria: I can’t feel her pulse. Pete: Are you sure? Christian: But is she breathing? Maria: No…… Heidi: Damn has somebody got a mobile? Christian: The battery of my mobile is flat. Heidi: We’ve got to call an ambulance! David: Are you out of your mind…..? if they come here and they find us here with all this stuff we’re in trouble. Pete: But she’s not breathing! Maria: She could die! David: And I’ll get killed if my mum gets to know that I blow grass. Heidi: You’re a bunch of idiots Christian: Let’s call an ambulance we’ll tell them that we have found this girl fainted on the floor and then we’ll run away. Heidi: I’m not leaving her here…. David: I couldn’t care less… I don’t even know her name. Let’s clear off…. Maria: You cowards! Pete: Bastards! Heidi: What has she taken? Maria: A bit of everything..... I think.... when she arrived she was already wasted as usual. Pete: Do you know her? Heidi: She’s my best friend.... *** TRACK 10 (Estonia) Spirit: Anna, We have many more things before us compared to those we have left behind our backs Spirit: Resin comes from pain, a tear that drips from a wounded tree. Spirit: Those drops can’t flee, they can’t slip away like water , they’ll never abandon the tree. Spirit: They’ll stick to the trunk to keep it company, to help it resist and grow higher. Spirit: The past will exist until we remember it Spirit: The future will wait for us until we have hopes Spirit: The present will be worth living until we have friends (Music fades)
ATTO V - SCENA I THE SPIRITS OF FRIENDSHIP FUTURE TRACK 11 (The spirits of future friendship enter: they are the same actors Heidi, Pete and Maria.- They walk on an imaginary string keeping their balance) Spirit: If you draw a line with chalk on the floor. It is as difficult as walking on the thinnest of all strings Spirit: Anyway anyone could do it without any problem because it ‘s not dangerous. Spirit: If you pretend that the string is nothing else but a drawing done with chalk and the air around is the ground you can walk feeling safe on all the strings in the world. Anna: Heidi! Pete!Maria…..What the Damn….. Spirit: To have friends is a risk…… Spirit: Like an equilibrist in the air takes little steps, looking for stability and emotion in each one of them Spirit: The equilibrist feels emptiness around himself and the only way to survive i sto believe in it. Spirit: He can’t turn back otherwise he would loose his balance and he can’t look down otherwise he would feel dizzy and he would fall Spirit: He can only look forward keeping his head up Spirit: What is important is inside us; nobody can help us from outside Spirit: Everything becomes possible if we aren’t in contrast witrh ourselves, if we live getting on well with each other and living in love Spirit: Not only walking on a rope but also Flying…… Anna: Heidi…… Spirit / Heidi: Don’t walk in front of me. I might not be able to follow you; - don’t walk behind me - I might not be able to lead you - Walk by my side and we’ll always be friends TRACK 12 - (ONE FRIEND) Carolina / Ilaria (Anna e Heidi bambine): I always thought you were the best - Ho sempre pensato che tu fossi la migliore Sofia / Eleonora (Anna e Heidi del presente): Sometimes the world was on our side - A volte il mondo era dalla nostra parte Camilla (Anna del sogno): Someone who understands me - Qualcuno che mi capisce BUIO Su musica, in spot light, scena senza dialoghi del risveglio di Anna. Heidi, Pete e Maria la abbracciano.
