Teachers’ meeting in Scandicci from the 16th to 20th February 2009

The teachers met in the centre of Florence on the 16th. The group went on a guided tour of Palazzo Vecchio and enjoyed seeing the secret rooms of the Medici family. We also enjoyed a typical Florentine menu in a restaurant with some of the Italian colleagues. On Tuesday there was the opening ceremony with the mayor of Scandicci and other local authorities as well as the headmaster. The school orchestra played a selection of music to welcome the partners. The local press and tv reporters were there to record the event and interview the students about the Comenius project. In the afternoon the partners discussed the planning of the festival in Vastse-Kuuste and each school presented their requests and needs for the final play.

On Wednesday the teachers visited the school and attended some lessons of robotics, music, biology and P.E. It was followed by a crossword game created by the students and art teacher regarding school and friendship. The crossword had to be filled in in all the languages of the project. The winners were Turkey and Germany, who received a book about Boboli gardens as a prize. In the afternoon we visited“La Pergola” the oldest theatre in Florence and then some of the partners went to Pisa. In the evening we enjoyed a real Italian pizza in a nice place in the city centre, where other Italian colleagues joined the group.

On Thursday morning we went to visit the most important sights in Scandicci and the tour ended in an “agriturismo” on the hills , where we had lunch. In the afternoon we enjoyed a nice performance by the pupils of the primary school and later we all met at Antonella’s. There we had ice-cream and hand made sweets.

The meeting finished with a farewell party at school organized by all the teachers and the school staff, who cooked Italian specialities and performed for the partners.
