First act- First scene

(In the school corridor: Aslı is late for school, is looking her watch. Kerem comes down the corridor, looking for his classroom)

Aslı: Oh,I’m running late

(Aslı and Kerem bump into each other)

Kerem: Sorry

Aslı: What are you doing?

Kerem: ---

(Aslı collects her boks etc. From the flor.Aslı doesn’t hear Kerem’s apologies)

Aslı: Now look what you’ve done!

Kerem (very quietly): I’m so sorry. (Aslı doesn’t hear)

Aslı (looks at her hands and says to herself): Oh,my nails!

(Aslı goes away and the boy follows her with his eyes)

(light turns off)

Second scene

(Friends of Aslı are in the drama classroom. Aslı is late)

(Friends are chatting and laughing, Aslı enters)

Hürrem: Hi! Where’ve you been?

Aslı: Hi! Guess what happened to me just now. I was running because I was late and some stupid boy just bumped into me. I’ve never seen that boy here before. I think that he’s new at our school. He was soooo rude. He didn’t even say sorry. How stupid!

Friends: Oh….. really….. (etc., then chatting and diva-like-avting continues)

(Drama teacher comes in)

Teacher: Good morning class! Everybody sit down, please! Today we’re going to speak about…(students are chatting on) Are you listening? We’re talking about William Shakespare and Romeo and Juliet. What do you know about the play?

Aslı: There is that young couple in Verona.

Teacher: Good! What else?

Hürrem: They killed themselves because of love…

Aslı: How stupid.I’d never do that

Hilal (bossy girl): That’s typical of you.

Hürrem (blond and not-that clever): Yes, because you aren’t romantic at all. But boys aren’t worth dying for them anyway. (Girls giggle)

(Somebody knocks at the door. Kerem comes in, Aslı recognizes him as the boy from the corridor)

Aslı (aside to her friends): Oh,that’s the boy I was talking about.

Hilal: Oh,he’s the stupid one.

Hürrem: But he’s goodlooking.

Hilal and Aslı (in a chorus): Nooooo!

Aslı: Are you joking?

Hilal: No, he’s not not that cute…

Teacher: Right, now. Will you please listen to me. This is Kerem, he’s a new student in our class. I hope that you’ll get on well!

Hürrem (loud):I guess that’s our Romeo.(Girls are laughing)

Teacher (earnestly): That’s a good idea, indeed! (to Kerem): Right, we’re talking about Romeo and Juliet. Will you please take a seat there next to Aslı?

(Kerem tries to sit next to Aslı puts her books on his chair)

Teacher (to Aslı): Will you please take your books away and let Kerem sit down!

Aslı (obeys but seems disappointed,says to friends): Moooove!

(Friends laugh…)

Teacher: So who will be Juliet then? ...(looks around, focusses on Aslı) Aslı, you will be our Juliet!

Friends: Oh, poor you, ha ha

Aslı: Oh, please, Ma’am,do really have to?

(School bell rings)

Third Scene

(In the school cafe. - Kerem is doing his homework, Aslı comes in, looks around, sees Kerem, walks slowly up to him.)

Aslı (unfriendly and reluctant): Hello! Teacher told us to rehearse our parts in the play. Maybe we should do it now? So, do you have time now? (looking around, not wanting her friends to see them)

Kerem: Yes, of course. (surprised, shy)

Aslı: Then, let’s start from these lines and make it quick so we’ll get over with it.

Kerem (starts to read as Romeo - balcony scene, speaking sooo niceliy, looking into Aslı’s eyes): O,speak again, bright angel! For thou art - As glorious to this night being o’er my head - As is a winged messenger of heaven - Unto the white-upturned wondering eyes - Of mortals that fall back to gaze on him - When he bestrides the lazy-pacing clouds - And sails upon the bosom of the air.

Aslı (reading Juliet’s lines, feeling like Juliet while reading!!!): O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?- Deny thy father and refuse thy name - Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, - And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.

(She drops her textbook,bot hare leaning down,faces close to each other,eyecontact)

Kerem (friendly): Let me help you.

Aslı (surprised, starts to see Kerem differently): Oh, thanks. That’s nice of you. (smiles, continues reading Juliet): How camest thou hither,tell me and wherefore? - The orchard walls are high and hard to climb - And the place death, considering who thou art - If any of my kinsmen find thee here.

(Kerem reaches out and takes Aslı’s hand in his, they continue hand in hand. The text is very romantic, so is the atmosphere)

Kerem (as Romeo): With love’s light wings did I o’er-perch these walls; - for stony limits cannot hold love out - And what love can do that dares love attempt; - Therefore thy kinsmen are not let to me.

(Friends enter the cafe, unnoticed by Kerem and Aslı, who continue reading)

Hürrem: Let’s have a cup of coffee.

Hilal: Good idea!

Hürrem: Where’s Aslı? I haven’t seen her for a while

(Friends seeing Kerem and Aslı holding hands, break the magical moment)

Hilal: Oh, there’s Aslı and Kerem

Friends (in a chorus): What-are-you-doing?

(Aslı and Kerem lat go of their hands and move away from each other)

Aslı: We…we…

Kerem: Oh, I got to go now. (rises and…)

Second Act - First Scene

(Kerem goes out)

Hilal: Aslı, what were you doing with Kerem?

Hürrem: You said that you didn’t like him,but…

Hilal: You were like “darlings”

Aslı (hesitantly): Yes, yes. I didn’t like him. It was just a rehearsal.

Hilal (with gesture): Like this?

Aslı: It is just our role.

Hürrem: You really don’t like him,do you?

Aslı: Noo, never!

Hilal: Then, do you like him?

Hürrem: Don’t be silly. Let’s go to the class.

(They come to the class. Aslı comes across their teacher and starts to talk to her. Hürrem and Hilal enter first. When they come to to the class, they see a paper on Aslı’s desk)

Hilal: Heeyy, what the hell is that?

Hürrem: What is this? Give it to me!

Hilal: Who wrote this?

Hürrem: I think, this is for our little princess. Look what is written: ”Aslı I’m sorry for what happened today.When the school ends, can we meet and talk? Kerem”

Hilal: Wooww, I guess a new love is on the way.

Hürrem: Shut up! You don’t think that I will allow this,do you? I think Aslı will wait a lot today.

Hilal: What the hell are you thinking?

Hürrem: Wait and see (takes the paper and writes something) (to Hilal): Take Aslı and come to canteen at 12 o’clock.

Hilal (confused): Why?

Hürrem: You just come.

Hilal: I asked what the hell are you thinking?

(At this moment Aslı and Kerem comes. Finally teacher comes.)

Teacher: Are you waiting me like that? (to Kerem): What are you doing? What’s it in your hand? Put it away! I don’t want to see you again like that. You have a big exam, university exam this year. But you seem to be very interested in it! If so, you won’t pass it. You will be free today. You can study on your own. If you can!!

(the school bell rings)

Second scene

(In the garden)

Hürrem: Heey Kerem, what are you doing?

Kerem (by stammering): I’m just sitting.

Hürrem: So..OK, then I won’t let you be alone

(While in downstairs Hilal looks at her watch.)

Hilal (silently): Oh, it’s 12

Aslı: Did you say something.?

Hilal: No, noo.I’m hungry. Let’s go to the canteen.

Aslı: Ok, Let’s go!

(Hürrem is dizzy and faints intentionally to Kerem’s arms)

Kerem: What happened?

Hürrem: I’m just dizzy.

(Aslı sees this and runs out - Kerem runs, too)

Kerem: Aslı, wait!

(Aslı disappears)

(At the same time):

Hilal: Have you started cleaning?

Hürrem: Shut up! Don’t look like that. Help me!

Hilal: What happened?

Hürrem: It was better than I thought.

Hilal: You are like a devil.

Hürrem: I know

Third scene

(And the other day… In the morning,girls come to class, kiss each other, sit on their desks. Hürrem calls Aslı)

Hürrem: Hi honey. Good morning! Today, our teacher is absent for one lesson, so you don’t have to come early.

Aslı: OK, thanks Hürrem.

(Hürrem shuts down telephone)

Hürrem: Yess…

Hilal: ???

(The teacher comes,routine starting)

Hürrem: Ma’am, can we rehearse our play on stage? Aslı and Kerem prapared so much.

Teacher: But, I can’t see Aslı.

Hürrem: Hmm, that’s right. Why didn’t she come? I can take her role for the time.

Teacher: It’s possible. You can play for today.

(Hürrem and Kerem make a rehearsal. Aslı comes)

Aslı: Good morning!

Teacher: Oooo, good morning! Where’ve you been up to now? I wish, you hadn’t come today. We would bring the lesson to your house, moreover your room…

Aslı: But Ma…(The bell rings)

Teacher: OK, see you tomorrow, I hope, one of you won’t be late.

(At this time, Hürrem comes near Aslı)

Hürrem: Heyy, Aslı welcome! Look what I will tell you! Kerem wanted to make a rehearsal. And I accepted to take part in the play instead of you. I hope, there is no problem for you.

Aslı: No, it’s not a problem

Hürrem: Ok, then.

(Hürrem goes out, Kerem comes near Aslı)

Kerem: They said you wouldn’t come today

Aslı: Who said?

Kerem: Hü….

Aslı: No, you don’t have to answer I have already known.

Kerem: What do you mean?

Aslı: Nothing! Everything is clear.

Kerem: I didn’t want to rehearse. The teacher told us.

Aslı: Hürrem doesn’t say so.

Kerem: What did she say to you? And,who do you believe, she or me?

Aslı: Why do I believe you? (stops, and) Why are you trying to make an explanation to me?

Kerem: Haven’t you still got it? Because…

Aslı: I don’t want to get it, I won’t either.

Kerem: But you have to listen to me.

Aslı: I don’t want to listen you and your lies.I’ve heard enough lies.

Kerem: But I…

(Aslı goes out)

Kerem:….love you!

(The light turns off)

Final scene

(In the school cafe - Kerem is standing silently, Hilal comes)

Hilal: Kerem, are you OK?

Kerem: How can I be OK with Hürrem?

Hilal: I know what happened! And I assure you I’m very sad, too.

Kerem: There’s nothing to do. Aslı doesn’t believe me at all.

Hilal: Wait here.

(Goes to backstage and takes Aslı)

Aslı: Why do you do this? I’m going.

Hilal: Please, let him talk to you one time fort he sake of me. And there’s something I have to explain. Now, it was Hürrem who planned everything since the beginning. She likes Kerem too and wants to do whatever she can do to break up you. Initially, it seemed like an innocent thing. But then, it turned out a nightmare. I want you to be happy. And I’m very upset for my waiting up to now.

Kerem: Hilal, I won’t forget this you did.

Aslı: That is everything happened because of Hürrem, didn’t they?

Kerem: Yess, even your coming late.

(Kerem hold Aslı’s hand)

Hilal: I will leave you alone.

Aslı: I’m sorry fot not believing you.

Kerem: It’s not important now. The fact is clear. What are you thinking now?

Aslı: About what?

Kerem: About us.

Aslı: I just don’t want this time to finish.

Kerem: Me too. There are a lot of things I want to say by looking at your wonderful eyes.

Aslı: There will be so much time to tell.

Kerem (smiles): Aslı, I want to be with you at those times. And…I love you..

Aslı: I love you,too

(In downstairs, Hürrem is planning something to do. Comes near Hilal)

Hürrem: Look what I’ve planned.

Hilal: Your plans won’t work anymore.

Hürrem: Why is that?

Hilal: Cause, the real love won

Hürrem: What did you do? What did you tell them?

Hilal: It would be good if you asked what I didn’t say.

Hürrem: I don’t believe you. Aren’t we friends?

Hilal: You wanted this. You’re alone with your devil. They will be happy in spite of you.
